First aid and prevention for children
– elective training course

DURATION
2,5 hours (150 minutes)

GENERAL DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Participants will be able to act appropriately and give relevant first aid in the event of injuries and accidents involving children, and will be aware of ways to prevent everyday injuries, including fall, blow, pinch and cut injuries to children.

Participants will be able to act appropriately in the event of children suffering injuries caused by poisoning, internal chemical burns, scalding or burns.

Participants will be able to act appropriately in the event of sudden cases of illness that entail cramps and/or changes to a child’s level of consciousness.

Participants will be able to give relevant first aid for foreign objects in the airways.

TRAINING COURSE CONTENT

  • First aid and prevention of minor injuries, pinching, cuts, falls, etc.
  • First aid and prevention of scalding, burns and chemical burns
  • First aid in the event of children falling ill, as well as first aid and preventing of choking/strangulation
  • Prevention of choking and first aid in the event of foreign objects in the throat

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TRAINING COURSE
The course will have a minimal focus on theory, and will instead primarily entail realistic exercises, participant reflection and practical training. Exercises and training must be carried out in a relevant and suitable area with the inclusion of realistic props.

COMMENTS
It is recommended that this training course is taken in extension of the “First aid for cardiac arrest” basic training course. This course does not cover basic life support and the use of defibrillators. It is recommended that the starting point for the preventative component of this course be based on the Danish Health and Medicines Authority and Danish Committee for Health Education Material.
