BASIC SAFETY TRAINING: Fire awareness refresher module

The purpose of this module is to refresh participants’ knowledge how to fight fires and to rapidly and quickly assess a fire. Participants should be able to manage the evacuation of co-workers to ensure the safe rescue of all parties in the event of an uncontrollable fire. In addition, participants should be able assess when it is safe to extinguish the fire using small hand-held fire extinguishers.
In general, the course provides participants with basic knowledge and skills to enable them to work safely in the wind turbine industry. As such, the course meets the requirements for new employees and the handling of emergency situations in the wind turbine industry.

TARGET GROUP
The course is intended for both onshore and offshore employees.

REQUIREMENTS
This basic safety training course consists of physically demanding and potentially stressful components. Therefore, all participants must be alert and able to complete the entire course. It is a prerequisite that participants complete a valid declaration of health form in order to take part in the practical exercises.
Participants must have completed the module ‘Fire awareness’. Participants must be able to show a valid and non-expired certificate.

OBJECTIVES
Through theoretical and practical exercises the course ensures that participants will be able to:
⦁ demonstrate knowledge on how a fire develops;
⦁ demonstrate knowledge on the causes of fire in wind turbines and the hazards that are associated with such fires;
⦁ identify signs of fire in a wind turbine environment;
⦁ demonstrate knowledge on emergency preparedness plans in a wind turbine environment, hereunder smoke detection and emergency rescue procedures;
⦁ act correctly upon discovery of a fire and carry out the correct fire extinguishing methods with the right equipment in a WTG.
