Confined Space
– 1 day
Purpose
The participant will gain an understanding of working in small confined spaces with vertical access, as well as the use of risk analyses, work plans, and rescue plans. This is a low to medium risk course, meaning the work can be performed using standard respiratory protection (dust masks, filter masks, and turbo masks).
If fresh air supplied respiratory protection such as escape devices, smoke diving equipment, diving apparatus, or airline systems are required, this constitutes a two-day high-risk course.
This includes evacuation and rescue of colleagues using harnesses, ascenders, rope winches, safety lines, or fall arrest blocks.
Participants must understand how to select appropriate equipment for lowering and raising operations and use it correctly under supervision. They will also become familiar with detection equipment and ventilation systems.
Target audience
The Confined Space course is designed for employees in the construction industry, wind turbine sector, emergency response personnel, offshore workers, and individuals working in low to medium risk wells or tanks.
Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will have knowledge of and be able to:
- Understand low to medium risk confined spaces and associated hazards
- Recognize risks and implement measures to minimize them
- Conduct evacuation procedures and initiate colleague rescue using proper rescue equipment
- Select suitable safety equipment for entering confined spaces and apply it correctly
- Detect and identify respiratory toxins within confined spaces
- Understand the use of ventilation to remove these respiratory hazards
- Be familiar with filter mask systems
