GWO Basic Safety Training
– Fire Awareness Refresher
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to refresh participants’ knowledge, ensuring they remain capable of performing fire suppression and providing a swift and accurate assessment of a fire, as well as preventing fires in the workplace.
Participants should be able to manage the evacuation of employees, ensuring that everyone is safely rescued in the event of an uncontrollable fire. Additionally, participants must be able to assess when it is safe to extinguish a fire using smaller handheld extinguishing equipment.
Overall, the course equips participants with fundamental knowledge and skills that enable them to work safely within the wind turbine industry.
Target Audience
This course is designed for employees working both onshore and offshore in the wind energy sector.
Objectives
Through both theoretical instruction and practical exercises – in accordance with GWO first aid training – this course ensures that participants are able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of how fires develop.
- Demonstrate understanding of causes of fires in wind turbines and associated hazards.
- Identify signs of fire within a wind turbine environment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency plans in a wind turbine setting, including smoke detection and rescue procedures.
- Respond appropriately upon discovering a fire and carry out effective firefighting using equipment available in a WTG (Wind Turbine Generator).
