GWO Basic Safety Training
– Manual Handling
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to enhance participants’ awareness of positive behavior regarding manual handling. The course equips employees in the wind turbine industry with the ability to perform manual handling activities safely, in accordance with the BST module on “Manual Handling”.
Overall, the course provides participants with fundamental knowledge and skills that enable them to work safely within the wind turbine industry. Thus, it meets the requirements for new employees in the wind turbine sector concerning emergency management.
Target Audience
This course is designed for employees working both onshore and offshore in the wind energy sector.
Objectives
Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical exercises – in alignment with GWO first aid training – this course ensures that participants are capable of:
- Demonstrating an understanding of the importance of performing tasks safely and sensibly, in compliance with legal requirements relevant to their operational area.
- Identifying aspects of their job responsibilities that may increase the risk of developing musculoskeletal injuries.
- Understanding safe practices for manual handling, including proper equipment handling techniques.
- Recognizing signs and symptoms related to poor manual handling techniques and being aware of reporting methods.
- Proposing solutions for challenges associated with manual handling in a wind turbine environment.

Assessment
Ongoing assessment through questioning techniques during the theoretical portion. Participants must complete all exercises satisfactorily, which will be documented on a Performance Assessment Form.
A certificate will be issued upon completion of training, along with reporting to WINDA.
Notes
- Before attendance, participants must be registered in WINDA’s database.
- This basic safety training consists of physically demanding activities and potentially stressful scenarios; therefore, all participants must be healthy and fit to complete the entire program.
- It is a prerequisite for participation that each participant submits a valid health declaration according to GWO guidelines.
- The maximum personal weight limit, including work clothing, is 136 kg., as per equipment specifications.
