Functional Training
Intervention 2025
Purpose
The purpose of the Functional Training intervention is to enhance participants’ competencies as firefighters so they can independently collaborate with their teams to address necessary tasks at an incident site.
This training will focus on developing skills related to navigating incident scenes, operational procedures, equipment handling, solving both technical and tactical challenges, conducting smoke diving as well as chemical diving; it will also emphasize teamwork.
Participants will concentrate on their individual development points through practice sessions aimed at refining their skills.
Additionally, there is an objective to foster comprehension of foundational knowledge while providing information about relevant guidelines governing task performance.
Target Group
The target audience for Functional Training intervention includes individuals who are set to serve as firefighters within Denmark’s rescue services after successfully completing Basic Training Intervention.
Objectives
The competency objectives for Functional Training intervention are outlined below:
Knowledge
- Understanding building structures and types.
- Awareness regarding green transportation means along with energy forms such as natural gas.
- Comprehension of occupational health standards regarding safety measures.
- Familiarity with buildings’ technical installations along with active/passive systems.
- Understanding phases involved in fire progression.
Skills
- Effectively perform firefighting operations across solid substances (liquids/gases).
- Conduct smoke diving along with chemical diving practices effectively.
- Execute stabilization techniques alongside lifting loads appropriately.
- Facilitate person extrication actions including those from vehicles.
- Engage effectively in CBRNE events.
- Employ relevant technical/tactical skills necessary for addressing various tasks at incident sites while adhering strictly to safety regulations/guidelines/standards.
- Apply diverse extinguishing methods/strategies.
Competencies
- Function effectively as a cohesive unit while executing independent responsibilities at an incident scene; engage collaboratively to address challenges in accordance with established safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations.
- Perform competently within the capacity of smoke or chemical diving, either independently or in collaboration with others, while undertaking firefighting, rescue, or CBRNE assignments, all while ensuring adherence to established safety mandates, directives, and protocols.
- Assume responsibility for personnel rescue operations involving breaching actions, lifting weights, stabilizing structures, and extricating individuals from vehicles, ensuring compliance with all activities conducted in accordance with stipulated regulatory frameworks and requirements.
Catering
Duration
20 weekdays (Monday – Friday) – interspersed by a “pause” period lasting 14 weekdays.
Assessment
Instructors perform continuous formative evaluations throughout Functional Training intervention assessing whether each participant:
- Acquires requisite knowledge/skills/competencies aligned precisely against defined learning plans.
- Demonstrates capability reflecting upon errors adjusting behaviors accordingly if necessitated.
- Assumes proactive accountability ensuring compliance safeguarding pertinent occupational health/safety standards.
- Engages enthusiastically participating fully across instructional/practical exercise components.
Concluding assessments culminate through final examinations requiring participants generally attend minimally 90% instruction sessions preceding eligibility consideration pertaining certification issuance awarded contingent successful exam completion.
Notes
Before participating in Functional Training interventions, it is essential to successfully complete the necessary prerequisites to ensure satisfactory results.
Obligations regarding Basic Training interventions must be fulfilled, particularly for those enacted after 2025.
