GWO Basic Safety Training
– Fire Awareness

Purpose

The aim of this course is to equip participants with the skills necessary for fire extinguishment, enabling them to make quick and accurate assessments of a fire situation, as well as to prevent fires in the workplace.

Participants will be trained to manage the evacuation of employees safely during an uncontrollable fire. Additionally, they should be able to determine when it is safe to extinguish a fire using handheld firefighting equipment.

Overall, the course provides participants with fundamental knowledge and skills that ensure their safety while working in the wind turbine industry, thereby meeting the requirements for new employees regarding emergency management.

Target Audience

This course is designed for personnel who work both onshore and offshore within the wind energy sector.

Through both theoretical instruction and practical exercises—aligned with GWO first aid training—the course ensures that participants will be capable of:

Duration

Half a day

Assessment

Continuous assessment through questioning techniques during the theoretical portion. Participants must complete all practical exercises satisfactorily, which will be documented in a Performance Assessment Form.

A certificate will be issued upon completion of the training, along with reporting to WINDA.

Notes

  • Prior to attendance, participants must be registered in WINDA’s database.
  • This basic safety training consists of physically demanding activities that can potentially induce stress; therefore, all participants must be healthy and fit to complete the entire program.
  • It is essential for participation in this course that attendees complete a valid health declaration according to GWO guidelines.
