Basic Training
Intervention 2025
Purpose
The purpose of the Basic Training intervention is to develop participants’ fundamental competencies as firefighters, enabling them to independently and collaboratively execute specific tasks at an incident site. The training will emphasize developing and practicing teamwork and collaboration skills, navigating an incident scene, adhering to operational procedures, operating equipment, and resolving both technical and tactical challenges. Participants will focus on their own development and learning points through exercises and skill training. Additionally, the goal is to foster an understanding of the underlying foundational knowledge while informing about applicable guidelines and principles for task execution.
Target group
The target group for the Basic Training intervention consists of individuals who are to serve as firefighters in Denmark’s rescue services.
Objectives
The competency objectives for the Basic Training intervention are as follows:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the physical and psychological demands placed on a firefighter in their daily duties.
- Knowledge of basic fire chemistry and physics essential for a firefighter's tasks.
- Knowledge of active and passive fire protection measures.
- Understanding of incident scene management that enables safe navigation at an incident site.
Skills
- Utilize breathing apparatus as personal protection outside hazardous areas.
- Operate a SINE terminal for communication during interventions.
- Use professional terminology in communication during training, operations, exercises, etc.
- Perform all manual tasks related to hose deployments, including operating fittings and nozzles, pump operation, and simple water supply management.
- Administer first aid during mass casualty incidents under direct supervision from a team leader.
- Execute assisting rescue tasks alongside qualified firefighters, including rescues from height or involving extrication scenarios.
- Carry out manual tasks without direct contact with hazardous materials during CBRNE incidents.
Competencies
- Assume responsibility for the correct use of extinguishing agents during interventions.
- Ensure that work is conducted safely concerning occupational health and safety standards while focusing on personal safety.
Catering
Duration
10 weekdays (Monday – Friday).
Assessment
Instructors conduct ongoing formative evaluations of participants throughout the Basic Training Intervention. Evaluations focus on whether participants:
- Acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies according to the learning plan.
- Reflect on mistakes and adjust behavior when necessary.
- Actively take responsibility for adherence to safety regulations and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Participate actively in classes and practical exercises.
A certificate will be issued upon completion of the training.
Notes
Participants must have completed a first aid course for individuals with special responsibilities (12 hours) with satisfactory results prior to starting the training. The Basic Training meets new requirements effective from 2025 and provides access to new functional training without needing updates from basic training.
