STCW A-VI/1-1
– Basic Safety at Sea
Purpose
This training program meets the requirements set forth by the Danish Maritime Authority for education in Basic Safety at Sea. The course is approved by the maritime authority and fulfills the stipulations of the STCW convention.
Target Audience
Seafarers employed on vessels where they perform operational tasks as part of the crew.
Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will gain knowledge of and be able to apply:
- Emergencies that may occur (collision, grounding, fire, shipwreck, etc.)
- An overview of rescue equipment typically found on ships.
- The equipment associated with rescue devices.
- The placement of personal flotation devices.
- Principles for survival at sea.

Duration
1 day
Assessment
Continuous assessment through questioning techniques during the theoretical portion. Participants must complete all practical exercises with satisfactory results.
A certificate will be issued upon completion of the training and reported to the Danish Maritime Authority.
Notes
- The training is quality assured according to the requirements of the maritime authority.
- Participants must bring valid health documentation in the form of a seafarer’s book (maximum 2 years from examination) or a health certificate from a maritime physician (maximum 2 years old).
- Instruction can be provided in both Danish and English.
