GWO Basic Safety Training
– Working at Heights – Refresher
Purpose
The objective of this course is to refresh participants’ knowledge, ensuring they remain capable of utilizing basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), performing work at heights safely, and executing comprehensive basic rescue operations from heights in a wind turbine-like environment. This aligns with the BST module “Working at Heights.”
Overall, the course provides participants with essential knowledge and skills that enable them to work safely within the wind energy sector.
Target Audience
This course is designed for employees working both onshore and offshore in the wind energy industry.
Objectives
Through both theoretical instruction and practical exercises—consistent with GWO first aid training—the course ensures that participants are able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the hazards and risks associated with working at heights, specifically at a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG).
- Accurately identify PPE and Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE), including recognizing European/global standard markings on items such as harnesses, safety helmets, safety lines, etc.
- Exhibit knowledge and skills enabling participants to properly inspect, service, store, and pack relevant PPE and PFPE, such as harnesses, lanyards, shock absorbers, and positioning equipment.
- Correctly use the appropriate PFPE including harnesses, lanyards, shock absorbers, and positioning equipment. This includes accurately identifying anchor points and demonstrating proper conduct on ladders.
- Use evacuation equipment correctly.
- Demonstrate how to resolve rescue situations within a WTG and effectively utilize rescue equipment.
