GWO Basic Safety Training
– First Aid
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to equip participants working in the wind turbine industry and within a WTG environment to provide effective first aid.
Generally, the course imparts fundamental knowledge and skills that enable participants to operate safely within the wind turbine sector. Thus, it meets the requirements for new employees in the wind energy industry regarding emergency response.
Target Audience
This course is designed for personnel working both onshore and offshore in the wind energy sector.
Objectives
Through both theoretical instruction and practical exercises – in accordance with GWO first aid training – this course ensures that participants are capable of:
- Demonstrating an understanding of the importance of administering first aid safely and sensibly, following legal requirements pertinent to their geographical area as well as ERC and AHA guidelines.
- Identifying and explaining normal bodily functions, signs, functions, symptoms of both serious injuries and minor injuries, as well as illnesses.
- Understanding and responding in the correct order during emergencies within a WTG environment.
- Providing life-saving first aid using the “C”-A-B-C method.
- Utilizing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Administering general first aid.
- Properly utilizing first aid equipment.

Assessment
Ongoing assessment through questioning techniques during the theoretical component.
Participants must successfully complete all exercises, which will be documented in a Performance Assessment Form.
A certificate will be issued upon completion of the training, along with reporting to WINDA.
Notes
- Prior to attendance, participants must be registered in WINDA’s database.
- This basic safety training involves physical demands and potentially stressful scenarios; therefore, all participants must be healthy and fit to complete the entire program.
- It is a prerequisite for participation that attendees fill out a valid health declaration according to GWO’s guidelines.
